Is mediocrity a crime?

I had to share this with you sooner or later. When I had just entered journalism, I came across a person who I just could not understand. He kept saying throughout that he hates mediocrity. He believes in being best at what he does. And in a way by saying this proved a mediocre in his mindset. Why? Well, because, rather than helping people improve in their work, he kept pin pointing what other people didn't do well and in a way showed that 'hey, you mediocre see where I am. Can't you understand the difference between you and me? Where you all are mediocre, I am the best around.' What an irony! To all those who subjected them this are doing really well for themselves. And hence proved that mediocrity is not a crime!
I remember to have made one very silly mistake. I was a starter, someone who didn't know the tricks of the trade. But instead of correcting me as my superior or boss, he mocked at and ridiculed me. Me being a beginner, the only thing I could make out of it was that he is a high headed fellow who didn't believe in boosting the morale of the other person or rather refining him/her, but rather making the other person feel below him. Today, I feel like telling him and many more who think that people who are mediocre fall in that category in more or or less in any form, are the ones who make a mark in the Field they enter. Be it Shah Rukh Khan, Dhirubhai Ambani or even Mallika Sherawat for that matter. All of them started with something which the world calls very mediocre. And look what they have achieved today. They have refined their skills only over a period of time. Of course they would have met who thought of themselves to be the best around, but unfortunately they lagged behind these mediocre whose work is considered to be 'par excellence'm. And the best around are still trying to figure out where they lost in this race.
There was a time when de' la creme' of our society were noted, renowned, imitated and projected. But later came the twist. And today, the largest decision makers in our society is the section of middle class. From as petty thing as popularity of an advertised product to as large as taking up the important positions in society like politicians, IAS, media persons the middle class is ruling in almost all walks of life. Even half or even lesser than that of the country earlier had done this big mistake of ignoring them. As a result, came a lull in the advertising, films and many more industries. But now they seem to have recognised the power in mediocrity. And even the rest of the world is gauging at the developments of the importance given to them. So, people like VR and many more, don't you dare doubt the fire inside mediocrity and attach an insignia to it. It may turn the tables one day while you may continue to live in a fool's paradise that mediocre are worth hating or to be looked down upon.
